She's here!

Okay, okay, someone should have told us that the time after you welcome a new baby into your lives will rush by you in a blur. Here we are--two full weeks after Scout Laughrin Harper came into our lives.

Labor began on May 31 at 11:45 p.m. with mild contractions, and by early June 1, it appeared as though things were "happening." Well, things happened for a grand total of 35 hours or so--Scout was born at 9:09 a.m. on June 2, 2007. She weighed 7 lbs. 11 oz. at birth and was 20.25 inches long. Her hair is a prominent feature, one that many have commented on. I think my favorite comment came from a co-worker of Cory's, who said, "Well, Cory, there's no denying this kid." I guess we should all be thankful the little girl didn't arrive with a full beard as well.

Since coming home from the hospital on June 4, we have been blessed with many phone calls, visitors and cards. We are so grateful for the overwhelming support. If you did not receive any return phone calls or emails, please forgive us--it seriously feels like one long day! How did it get to be the middle of June already?

Our adjustment to parenthood has gone pretty well. Despite the fact that I've had some complications in my recuperation, my energy level is continuing to increase day by day. Little Scout is in great health--which will be confirmed today with her two-week doctor visit. We're truly blessed with a sweet girl. She's often bright-eyed and bushy-tailed (Wait, aren't babies supposed to sleep a lot??? Was there a mix up?), which has been entertaining. She likes to stretch her skinny body out, and fling her arms up over her head. She found her thumb briefly today, but it only stayed in her mouth for a few seconds. She does sometimes look like she's smiling, but I'm pretty sure it's gas or something. I won't take it personally.

Auntie Lexie and Auntie Lacey... Aunt Lacey has been over to the house many times since her neice's arrival--one of the perks of being the closest relative. Don't you all want to come live in Denver now?

We are so lucky to have so many wonderful friends and family members to support our fam. All in all, life is good, and we're good. Thank you for helping us welcome this girl into our lives.
