The 12 days of Christmas, or something like it

Small children and Christmas go together like peas and carrots. Like Jenny and Forrest Gump. Like cake and ice cream. Like geraniums and a front porch.
These kiddos love Christmas.
There is one small downside: They love it A LOT. It has been like having salivating dogs outside of a meat locker around here... "When is Santa coming, Mom?" "When will it be Christmas?" Luckily, we could calm the savage beasts by throwing them a bone. Tonight we opened some gifts from Grandpa Matty and Grandma Karen, and Uncle Jake. In addition, we exchanged gifts between our own family. Let the fun begin!

He looks into this, doesn't he?

You knew this was coming, right?

Scout's turn!

New jammies and a robe--deluxe!

A swimsuit cover-up and flip flops!

Looking pretty good!

I got a new muffin tin--it holds a dozen (woo-hoo!)

Invited the Barbie heads to the tea party, too

We are so very fortunate around here to have such an abundance of loving family members and friends who wish to help our family celebrate Christmas. It's not lost on me just how generous everyone is, and we are truly grateful for it.

Catching up--Jake's visit and random others

I would like to update the blog, but first I have to figure out what photos I have. So I look in my camera and upload the latest. I uploaded 111 photos. That seemed like a lot.

So let me post a catching up with the Harper post. Jake was able to spend over a week with us, enjoying both Ruby's birthday festivities and Thanksgiving in Sundance with us. While he was in town, we also made fleischbrook, watched Scout's dance class, showed Jake a real live prairie dog, drove in the pick-up to Wyoming, saw Devil's Tower, gambled in Deadwood, saw American pronghorn by the dozens, drove back to Colorado and returned him to the airport--but not before stopping at the Old Spaghetti Factory first.

The delicious fleischbrook

Scout and some fellow dancers

Always the youtube fan. Here are some links. http://youtu.be/4rEIa14OeNM and http://youtu.be/Yxmb-SHcc68 and http://youtu.be/X--o3wzPcN4 and http://youtu.be/aZrWSVSVqMo

Here is a bigger shot of the dance class--it takes place in this great dance hall called Club Tico

Many of the girls performed in a show in Greeley (we didn't, simply because we had all of our family in town for Ruby's party that weekend)... here is Scout as a "water fairy"

On our way to search for prairie dogs

I think there were a lot of prairie dogs just chilling when we first arrived... but our presence seemed to throw them off. Jake did get to see some, but it wasn't as impressive as I'd pictured. I guess Jake is just intimidating to these cute little rodents.

Scout took this photo from the car window
So begins our trip to Wyoming for Thanksgiving. It's about 5 and a half hours to Sundance, and the girls did pretty well. Unfortunately, there was a lot of wind, and there must be some strange pressure issue in the truck, but there was a huge noise coming from Jake's window (the passenger side window). Scout thought that Jake was responsible for it and was getting pretty angry at her uncle for causing such an awful loud noise.
Cory made me take this photo. Take a close look at his shirt.

Cory was very sweet, and took me on a hot date to the clinic in Hulett. You see, I had an awful sore throat and it turns out that it was indeed Strep (thank you, Dr. Bob at the Hulett Clinic). So, since we had to take a drive, Jake rode along and we got to see on of the most iconic landmarks in Wyoming. Win win.
Jakers does look pretty happy to be here... don't you think?

But all good things must come to an end... but before we returned Jacob to the airport, we spent a few hours in Denver. We went to the Museum of Science and Nature, and took in the Old Spaghetti Factory. They seated us on the TROLLEY! Woo-hoo!

It was a great visit, and we were so lucky to have the best of both worlds for Thanksgiving--visitors from far away, and traveling to see family. Aside from my bummer episode with strep throat, it really was a lovely visit. Oh, and the other downside was that I apparently sent my germs home with Jake, because he got strep a few days after returning to Minneapolis.
Just a couple of girls reading in the chair

That's it for November!
