Halloween, and all that went with it

Halloween and kids, it's such an interesting thing. There are so many fun things to do, and I have found (more than once) that by the time Trick-or-Treating on Halloween rolls around... well, it's hard to keep the momentum going for quite so long. This year, we participated for the fist time in a church-related activity called Trunk or Treat--it's where people decorate the trunk of their car, then hand out candy. (But I forgot my camera.) Then, there was the parade at the preschool. Then, there was the parade at the elementary school (which I also missed entirely, because I had to get Ruby over to Mom's Day Out so that I could spend the morning volunteering at the elementary school). Then, Trick-or-Treating in our neighborhood. And it was chilly--so Scout only went down our cul de sac and then she was done.

Here come the paraders into the Fellowship Hall

There is Ruby, right next to Polly

Scout's outfit for school
So, Scout's school does this very cool thing where they fundraise for a "Read-A-thon" all throughout the month of October, and the culmination of the "Read-A-thon" is that they get to come to school dressed as their favorite literary character. The end of the month is coincidentally a dress-up date for a lot of kids, but the elementary school turns it into a literary fest--this just pleases the geek in me to no end.
Can you guess who Scout's favorite literary character is?

The ears were a challenge, even Cory helped

And then there was the wardrobe change prior to the Trick-or-Treating.

I had to show off the costume that I put together for the Trunk or Treat

Our mantra for the evening: Ruby, aren't you cold???

I wrote a little bit about my experiences with Halloween over here.  So it goes, then Halloween ushers in the rest of the fall holidays and it's a very busy time of year.
