My Kind of Town Chicago Is

After our lakeside fun, we returned to Sheboygan for a day before heading out on our next adventure. Grandma Karen, being the brave soul that she is, joined the three crazy Harper girls and we took off for the Windy City.

The purpose of the trip was largely to visit with an old friend from college--Jenny--and her family. Long ago, Jenny and I were RAs together at Loyola. Jenny now has three little ones, and it had been about 4 years since we last saw one another. Ruby and Scout got to spend time with their new friends Hamilton (4), Veronica (2) and Caroline (almost 9 months). As an added bonus, we got to take in some of the great features of this fabulous city.

A first look out the window of our hotel on the 36th floor

Waiting to be seated at TGIFridays--Jenny holds both of her girls

Scout was playing a game of 'hide the sunglasses'--the NEW sunglasses she just received from Hamilton and Veronica

Still waiting to be seated...but we're having FUN!

This photo somehow captures the confidence of "Chicago"-Scout, the girl who walks the busy sidewalks like she owns 'em

Now it's a game of balance the sunglasses on the top of my head!

Enjoying new friends--Veronica and Caroline and Ruby inbetween

Big City girls waiting for the bus

Can you believe we caught the bus to Navy Pier just like we were locals or something? Okay, okay, we had a bit of coaching the night before from Jenny, but still!

Scout was people-watching out the window

The ferris wheel that we had to save for another day (never enough time! well, truthfully, heights are not my thing, not grandma's either)

Next, we went to circus room where Ruby tried on some shoes

Attention! Attention! The show is about to begin!

Madame Shimmer, the fortune teller, is looking glum

Before leaving the building, we tried to get a snapshot of all of us

We took a taxi ride back to our hotel

The taxi cab dropped us off right by the Disney Store on Michigan Avenue. Scout and Ruby had no idea such a place existed! So, we let them pick out a few things and then we returned to Sheboygan.
