When Scout was in kindergarten, the first two weeks of school we had a heat day (due to unusually high temperatures) and a flood day (due to a historic flood in Northern Colorado that burst the St. Vrain, Big Thompson and Cache la Poudre Rivers). But, no snow day.
It's just such a lovely thing when the phone rings at 5:45 a.m. to say that, "Due to inclement weather, the Poudre Schools will remain closed." When Cory heard the phone ring, before he even listened to the recording, he said, "Lucky!!"
So, with a whole day to do nothing and the roads not worth the bother, we tinkered around the house. Scout & Ruby had received blanket kits from Grandma Karen and Papa Matty for St. Nick's Day. Scout had started hers and was nearly halfway done, but on our Snow Day she was able to finish. Here she is relishing in all of her hard work. (Truth be told, I did help a bit, but she did a ton of work.) Now the blanket sits on her bed.
I also spent some time baking. We made banana bread from some sad looking bananas. We also made a batch of Chex Mix that smelled the whole house up with that delicious savory scent.
The kids watched a Christmas show.
In the afternoon, the snow had stopped. Feeling ambitious, we got dressed and made our way outside. I shoveled the driveway (with helpers, see below). We had the neighbors from a few doors down come over and play, too.

Snow days are the absolute best!
