Ruby's first day of Pre-K (Sept. 2)

It's the beginning of a new year at the preschool. We do love it there and we'll be sad to say goodbye to this wonderful place, so we'll cherish this last year. With every day, it occurs to me that this "baby" of our family is growing bigger and smarter and more kind. Ruby has a very good friend at school, Lorelei, and she is in class again with several of her classmates from last year. Ruby LOVES to dance, and she tells us that when she grows up she wants to be a teacher. Ruby loves to cook. She can make three things very well with a little help from mom or dad: Polenta (or "Bowl Full of Mush" as we call it), Mac 'n' Cheese and Fried Egg. As the school year has progressed, something really sweet that she does is that when her sister is busy doing her homework, Ruby does her "homework" as well--writing in her notebooks or an old handwriting workbook that was Scout's. Ruby is easy-going and loves to watch "shows." Her favorite shows are "Littlest Pet Shop" and she loves the movie "The Croods." Some of her favorite songs are "Roar" by Katy Perry and the Kidz Bop version of "Clarity" (originally by Zedd). It goes without saying that Ruby LOVES the Frozen soundtrack like many other little girls, and it's been a popular soundtrack around here. Ruby loves to listen to books on tape, and she enjoys many different books & authors. Some favorites are "Eloise" by Kay Thompson, any Berenstain Bears books, and "Arthur's Chicken Pox" in the Arthur series. Ruby loves to play make believe, and she is often caught in elaborate play. When I ask her, "Who are you talking to?" she will reply, "Oh, I'm just talking to myself. I'm playing..." Ruby loves the neighbor kids, who she calls "The Little Kids," and sadly they are moving back to Australia.

Walking in

With Mrs. Bedard in class
After our first day, we took a walk with Penny. Since Lacey works such long days, we help her out with dogwalking sometimes.

For her lunch out to celebrate the big First Day of Pre-K, Ruby picked a special place to eat--someplace she'd never been before: Ruby Tuesday's.
