So, at this point, we've been in Maui a few days and we're learning the lay of the land.
First off...Our place is great. Perfect for us--a one bedroom condo with a full kitchen. Kids sleep in the living room on the couch, where they have access to cable TV. (oh no!!!) This place has a great location. Yes, there are roosters constantly cock-a-doodle-doing, but it's literally down the road from a Ritz Carlton and places that go for about $1200 a night. Perfectly walkable to Napili Beach and Kapalua Beach, two of the most amazing beaches not just in Maui, but in the world. It's not beachside, not oceanview, but it's so perfect (and had the perfect price tag) for us. Yay. Score on the place and its location. Couldn't have worked out better! (Next week is a different locale, and I'm sure we'll love that one, too, for different reasons.)
Second of all... our kids are troopers. TROOPERS. The traveling here went really well, but as you can imagine it was just... well... LONG. REALLY LONG. Add to the normal direct 7 hour flight we had booked the fact that there was a mechanical issue with the flight, so, wouldn't you know? An unexpected stop in San Francisco so that we could have everything fixed up lickety split prior to traveling over the Pacific. (Good choice, United.) Plus, we've thus far put them through long days, new experiences, hours in the car, and a lot of out-of-the-usual experiences. And they are awesome (even if they are a bit reluctant). Yes, there has been a bit of homesickness, there may have been a puking motion sickness incident, but all told--This has been going pretty darn well. Yay for that. Cross fingers that I didn't just jinx it.
Lastly... I so wish that we could share this experience with the amazing people in our lives. Throughout this experience, I have been blown away. Beautiful beaches. Snorkeling in the reef. Viewing a sunrise from the top of a volcano. Viewing waterfalls and cliff-side views of the ocean. Mai tais. ALL OF IT has been awesome, but the one thing I keep thinking in my head is, "Wouldn't it be cool if [insert name here] was here?" Everyone I know deserves an awesome vacation like this, and I can't wait for the day when I can enjoy this with others! Maui is a fun place, which would be even more fun if we had some of our special people here with us.
The other night, we took in a little "walk" down past Kapalua Bay and on a trail over to Oneola Bay. Gorgeous.
