Well, we took our kids to church camp. And it was an adventure. The Buckhorn United Methodist Camp is a GEM. Until the Wednesday prior to this trip, when I went up with a group of church folks for a recognizance mission, I had never been up there. It's gorgeous. And the camp director and everyone is just amazing. This camp came close to being completely destroyed in the High Park Fire of 2012. It is crazy to me that so much of the camp was saved, when you can clearly see from every vista a section of land that was hit hard. As it was, this camp survived and it's being rebuilt in areas where the fire damaged things.
We would have loved to bring our camper, but the road was less than ideal. Instead, we stayed in a cabin, which was the adventure-part of the trip. It was me, Cory, Scout & Ruby and our forty favorite moth friends on a sleepover in that cabin. I actually covered my head with the sleeping bag and told myself to pretend that the sound of the moths slamming into the window (since they could see the lights outside) was just akin to the pitter-patter of a gentle rainstorm. But other than that, we did a little service project of hauling wood & building a fire pit, and we did some fun activities (square dancing, anyone??). On Sunday, we had a lovely worship time before leaving to head back home.
