I can't remember exactly when, maybe it was the beginning of the summer, but my friend Ginger mentioned to me that she knew someone through her daughter's pre-school who ran a camping and hunting lodge in Meeker, Colorado. I chatted with Cory and we agreed we'd go for a weekend in August. Ginger arranged everything, and we really didn't think much of it.
After we got the link to the
Ute Lodge,
we learned more about the place--including the fact that it would be a 6
hour drive. So, Cory decided to take a day of vacation to make the
journey more comfortable. We planned to bring our camper, and Ginger and
her fam planned to rent one of the cabins on-site. Sounds good.
Well,
imagine our surprise when we arrived in this place--which Cory
affectionately described as "a little slice of heaven--and watched the
kids run, the dogs run and the trees envelope us. We enjoyed the
free-range ponies, got to feed the pigs our food scraps, got to use the
Disney Princess fishing rods that we bought several weeks ago. In
addition, the girls got to spend time with their sweet friends, sharing
meals and laughter.

| Of course, Hoot was also kind of annoying, especially the part where he grabbed our vegetable peeler out of our utensil holder |

| Ginger brought apples so that we could feed the horses... Scout wound up eating hers |

This place was lovely, and I hope we can return someday. This was--in Cory's words--his favorite place that we've camped so far.
